OVERVIEW - EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-PARAMEDIC
EMT-Paramedics are advanced providers of Emergency Medical Services and they build on their EMT education and learn more skills such as administering medications, starting intravenous lines, providing advanced airway management for patients, and learning to resuscitate and support patients with significant problems such as heart attacks and traumas.
EMT-Paramedics are often the lead member of a rescue team, with the most training and the most decision making power. This means that the requirements to be a paramedic include strong leadership skills and the ability to perform complex life-saving functions in extremely stressful crisis situations. An EMT-Paramedic must keep a cool head and maintain authority amongst his or her team members in situations where a mistake can mean the difference between life and death.

Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (EMT-P) has huge growth opportunities and can drastically excel in this field. Since paramedics are the highest level of emergency medical responders, working toward a more-skilled allied health profession or becoming an EMT educator is also a possible job growth option.
They can also work as an EMT Supervisors to Training preceptors to EMT trainers, and finally Training Managers, which is the most advanced role within emergency medical services.
